This north Spokane homeowner had a deck that was literally falling apart and a flat back yard that was all grass. They wanted to extend the living space for entertaining and cut down on maintenance so they could spend more time enjoying their yard rather than working in it. The design incorporated a large patio with two areas for tables and one secluded area for their hot tub, a large water feature equipped with a salt water chlorination system making it virtually maintenance free, and a sunken fire pit nestled between offering them and their guests a cozy retreat. All of the beds have basalt chip cover, weed fabric, and drip irrigation which when installed correctly is very effective in controlling weed growth thus cutting down on maintenance. A small area of lawn was strategically designed to add color and soften the look, and the final touch was a simple two post pergola to house the home owner's beloved hammock.
